On Thursday, we went to the Englwood Farmer's Market. Not just produce is sold but various other items such as clothing, make up, dog leashes, etc. you name it and most times can be found there.
We met several people there from the resort including Gwen and Rolly from northern Saskatchewan.
This is their first year in their motorhome and in their search for a winter retreat, just happened to find Myakka.
While there, we bought some delicious strawberries and tomatoes that had been picked the day before. They were delicious!! mmmm-mmmmm good!
The home made kettle corn was also scrumptious.
So, despite working out at the resort with various activities, food and drink are a plenty so needless to say..... continued work outs and keeping active are a must!
Always a fun time just people watching.
Friday, weather finally cooperated, which enabled a group of us to go participate in our eco kayak/paddle boarding venture. Despite the not so happy look on my face, I love being out on the water exploring.
As we tunnelled through the mangroves, our guide Stacy pointed out various marine life found beneath the shallow waters.
As we reached the lagoon, Stacy gathered us around to show some of the more unusual inhabitants.
The company, Hooked on Sup, is very environmentally conscious, so despite removing the creatures, to show us, everything is replaced in the exact location where it was retrieved. Wow! Now that is some memory.
Stacey explaining
about the horse conch.
Good thing I shaved my legs!!!
The Star Fish: There were hundreds of them, all shapes and sizes, along the bottom of the channel of the mangrove tunnel.
Next came the sponge to which was attached a living creature.
After our "nature lesson of the day, we paddled back through the tunnel and headed over to the state park for some lunch, all provided as part of the tour. The park is located at the tip of Palm Island-beautiful beaches and protected sand dunes and plants.
The "berry" at the end of this cactus is edible. Stacey has sampled the "fruit" which she said tasted sweet and reminded her of a pomegranate. It must be tricky picking that fruit.
As we paddled back to the dock, my wish was fulfilled. We saw several dolphins showing off-jumping and diving back into the water.
Very difficult to balance the kayak, watch the dolphins, get the camera ready and anticipate a photo op. The following result is not the greatest, but you will get the idea, if you zoom the pict to see this beautiful water mammal.
This activity, sponsored by Ralf and Amber, the owners of the resort, takes place weekly on the sunset patio. It is a chance to meet new people and greet our friends with a few drinks and nibblers.
Geez no drink in hand Elaine??
The Happy Gang!!
By the way I arose at 5 a.m. this morning, so I do hope you appreciate this post.
Internet works wonderful at this time of the day.
Yahoo!
I will close off by posting some picts of the wildlife at Myakka.
Enjoy!
And Yes Viv that is a real alligator-that is one of several residing in the lakes at Myakka.
Turtles saying hello.
As Bernie was out fishing from the pier, a hawk decided to pay him a visit.
A pod of dolphins also came by to visit.
Fortunately, Bernie had his camera to capture the moment.
Of course, I, the dolphin lover, was NOT there!
Today a group of girls, lol, and I are heading south to Naples to shop until we drop at the Miromar Outlet Centre
Today is all a great day because our good friends Patti and Steve +2 are also arriving from Missouri.
Yahoo!
The ice cream shop awaits!!
