Gracy, the dog belonging to our great next door neighbours, has found a friend-even dogs find friends at Myakka!
Good times with good friends this past week and a half, since my last post.
First off, we visited the Peace River Wildlife Centre.
The Peace River Wildlife Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the care, preservation and protection of Charlotte County's native wildlife.
THE MISSION of the Peace River Wildlife Center is to treat and rehabilitate injured and orphaned native Florida wildlife (except venomous snakes) and, if possible, to return them to the wild.
If they cannot be returned to their natural habitat due to sustained non life-threatening physical limitations, a permanent home shall be provided by the Center.
This is Luna, an albino owl, who was kicked out of its nest by its mother. At birth, since it was white, he was easily seen by its predators and in order to protect its other young, the mother owl kicked Luna out of its nest. It was found and brought to the centre to be looked after since it could not survive in the wild.
We saw eagles, sand cranes, owls, beautiful and majestic red-tailed hawks, pelicans pleated woodpeckers and even birds who came by to visit their friends to perhaps, get a free meal.
Then Steve and I had a chance to get up close and personal with Bella.
Still no Bernie on this day as he was still back at the coach, nursing his cold.
Bella was a healthy, injury free owl that had been fed as a baby by humans. Because of this, the owl had imprinted on a person and could not be released into the wild, because he could not find his own food. Remember when the ducks imprinted on us Cheryl?
He did put on quite the show!
And so did these two lovely birds!
Tuesday, we ate at the Peace River Seafood House-a great little seafood shack. Weather allowed us to dine outside-yahoo. Weather has been rather cool and very windy, so eating in the great outdoors was a treat.
Mind you, I am not complaining after, John, our neighbour had emailed us pictures of the latest snow storm to hit Ontario, showing our street covered with about 30 cm (12inches) of the white stuff.
Thanks John for the reality check!
Started off with cocktails,
and continued with the eating of shrimp, scallops, crab cakes, lobster etc and indulging in liquid refreshments.
MMM-MMMMM DELICIOUS!
Notice, Bernie has rejoined the group and is feeling much better. YAHOO!!
More to come...
